The Parkside Police are out patrolling in both marked and unmarked Police vehicles enforcing the Vehicle Code of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We ask that you abide by all vehicle laws while traveling through our town.
If you do violate the Vehicle Code of PA, or if you fail to operate a legally registered vehicle, there is an excellent chance you will be stopped and cited in the Borough of Parkside. Your vehicle may even be impounded (towed).
What to do if you see approaching Emergency Vehicles
- If the vehicle is approaching from behind, pull your vehicle to the far right side of the roadway and stop to allow the Emergency Vehicle to pass.
- If you are in the oncoming traffic lane, you should pull to the far right side of the roadway, and stop to allow the Emergency Vehicle to pass.
If you fail to yield to Emergency Vehicles, you could be stopped and cited. If the Officer is not able to stop at that time, your License Plate information and description of the driver could be recorded, and you could receive a citation in the mail.
What you should do when approaching a Police Officer on a Traffic Stop
When approaching a police vehicle from behind and its emergency lights are activated:
- Slow down, and give the officer room to work. If possible, move out and around the police vehicles.
- Most importantly, don't watch what the officer is doing. Stay focused on your driving.
- If you need to ask the officer a questions, such as directions, do not approach them while they are on a traffic stop. Wait until they are done.
What you should do if you are stopped by the Police while operating a motor-vehicle
The below items are for both you and the officer's safety.
- Pull to the far right side of the roadway, and stop. Do not drive on to the sidewalk.
- Roll down your window. (Especially if you have tinted windows).
- Listen for verbal direction from the Police Officer, he may ask you to move to a safer location, such as a side street or parking lot.
- If you are stopped at night time, turn your interior light on.
- DO NOT REACH AROUND IN YOUR VEHICLE!! Place your hands on the steering wheel and wait for the Officer to ask for your paperwork.
- If you feel you did nothing wrong, but you received a citation, do not argue with the Officer, request a hearing at the District Court.
